Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Chairs a Steering Meeting in Preparation for the 2026–2027 Academic Year

As part of the regular monitoring of sectoral reforms and to ensure the readiness of higher education institutions and university services for the upcoming academic year 2026-2027, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Kamel Baddari, chaired a steering meeting on the evening of June 17, 2026, at the Ministry’s headquarters. The meeting was attended by senior officials of the central administration, while the presidents of the regional university conferences and the chairpersons of the National Pedagogical Committees representing the various fields of study participated via videoconference.
The meeting was devoted to reviewing a number of strategic issues related to the development of the higher education system and university services, particularly:
• Preparations for the 2026–2027 academic year, including the review of academic, pedagogical, and organizational developments aimed at ensuring a successful start to the new academic year;
• The introduction of the courses “History of Algeria and Citizenship” and “Lean Start-up” into university curricula, with a view to strengthening students’ national awareness and fostering a culture of innovation, initiative, and entrepreneurship;
• Monitoring the programme for the rehabilitation and renovation of university residences across the country, while assigning university institution directors direct supervisory and on-site monitoring responsibilities at the local level, with the objective of improving student accommodation conditions and enhancing the quality of university services.

Nine Algerian Universities Ranked in the US News Best Global Universities 2025–2026

Nine (09) Algerian universities have achieved a new milestone by being ranked among the world’s top 2,250 universities in the US News Best Global Universities 2025–2026 ranking.
The universities included in the ranking are: Djillali Liabès University of Sidi Bel Abbès, Ferhat Abbas University Sétif 1, Abou Bekr Belkaïd University of Tlemcen, Houari Boumediene University of Science and Technology, Badji Mokhtar University of Annaba, Abderrahmane Mira University of Béjaïa, M’Hamed Bougara University of Boumerdès, Mohamed Boudiaf University of Science and Technology of Oran, and Mohamed Khider University of Biskra.
This achievement reflects the continuous improvement of Algerian universities’ standing on the international academic stage, driven by sustained efforts in scientific research, academic publishing, and international cooperation.
It is worth noting that Djillali Liabès University of Sidi Bel Abbès ranked first nationally and 849th globally, securing a distinguished place among the world’s top 1,000 universities. This accomplishment further demonstrates the positive momentum and growing international visibility of Algeria’s higher education institutions.
