Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Meets Members of the Algerian Community in the United Kingdom

At the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Kamel Baddari, chaired, on the evening of June 13, 2026, a meeting with a group of members of the Algerian community residing in the United Kingdom, including researchers, academics, and students. The meeting was attended by the Minister of State and Rector of the Great Mosque of Algiers, Mr. Mohamed El Maamoun El Kacimi El Hassani, as well as His Excellency the Ambassador of Algeria to the United Kingdom, Mr. Noureddine Yazid.
The meeting was held within the framework of strengthening engagement with Algerian talents and expertise abroad and listening to their views and aspirations regarding their contribution to the development of Algeria’s higher education and scientific research system, thereby supporting the country’s current development momentum across various sectors.
On this occasion, the Minister delivered an address in which he emphasized the pivotal role played by Algerians living abroad in enhancing Algeria’s international visibility and promoting its image worldwide, as well as their contribution to strengthening cooperation and partnership in scientific, economic, and cultural fields.
The Minister also praised the strong sense of patriotism and deep attachment to their homeland demonstrated by members of the Algerian community abroad, reaffirming the State’s commitment to strengthening communication channels with them and benefiting from their expertise and competencies in support of national development.
During the discussion that followed, Mr. Baddari highlighted the prospects for Algerian talents in the United Kingdom to contribute to local development, particularly through investment, knowledge transfer, and the sharing of expertise. In response to participants’ questions, he also outlined the various mechanisms and support measures established by the State to enable innovators and project holders to transform their ideas into economic ventures, start-ups, and high-value-added innovative projects.
The meeting concluded in a warm and cordial atmosphere, reflecting the participants’ strong attachment to their homeland. Attendees expressed their appreciation for the fruitful discussions and wished continued progress, prosperity, and excellence for Algeria and for the higher education and scientific research sector.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Highlights the Role of Artificial Intelligence in Reshaping the University during a Scientific Symposium at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies

As part of the events accompanying the launch of the Emir Abdelkader Chair at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, the second day of the programme, held on June 13, 2026, featured a scientific symposium dedicated to exploring the intellectual and civilizational dimensions of the legacy of Emir Abdelkader, founder of the modern Algerian state, and to discussing issues related to higher education, scientific research, economy, and development within the framework of Algerian-British relations.
The programme included three main sessions. The first session focused on the legacy of Emir Abdelkader and his historical and intellectual significance, with the participation of academics and researchers from the Great Mosque of Algiers, the University of Oxford, and the University of Westminster.
The second session addressed the current state and future prospects of science, technology, and higher education in Algeria, bringing together the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and a number of international experts and academics.
The third session was devoted to issues of economy and development, as well as prospects for Algerian-British cooperation, with the participation of distinguished academic and diplomatic figures from both countries.
Within this framework, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Kamel Baddari, delivered a lecture entitled: “How Will Artificial Intelligence Transform the University, and How Can the University Reinvent Itself in the Face of This Driving Force?”
During his presentation, the Minister highlighted the profound transformations taking place in higher education worldwide as a result of the rapid advances in artificial intelligence. He also emphasized the efforts undertaken by Algerian universities to keep pace with these developments by strengthening their role in knowledge creation and dissemination, advancing scientific research, fostering creativity and innovation, and preparing students with the skills and competencies required for the professions of the future.
