The launch of a new digital platform to assist new baccalaureate holders

On this day, April 29, 2024, the minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Kamel Baddari, oversaw the launch of a new digital platform that uses artificial intelligence and data mining to assist new baccalaureate holders of the 2024 sessions in choosing their study major.  

This platform, intended for the new baccalaureate holders, uses artificial intelligence as a simulation to assist students during the process of orientation, choosing the fields and branches of study in which they wish to register with higher education institutions, and giving estimated efficiency rates for these choices. The platform was based on the orientation processes of the baccalaureate holders from previous years.

The simulation process is carried out by entering the student’s subject marks obtained at the baccalaureate exam, and the digital platform provides estimated expectations about the fields and branches that the student can choose, as well as sequential suggestions for specialties.

The minister declared on Thursday 25th April 2024, that the University of Bejaia, owing to its performance, especially in the field of creativity and the creation of institutions, is an “example of success.” As “an important space for creativity and production”, he also examined the structures of research, settings, and technical equipments joined to the university in this wilaya, which contributes to a dynamic that associates research to institutions establishment whether micro or small, according to explanations provided on site.
The minister further highlighted that the University of Bejaia has contributed to the creation of 200 economic projects and obtained 20 patents, which clearly reflects the reasoning of the new Algeria who aspire to double the creation of companies on the bases of knowledge economy and diversify the creation of wealth and work opportunities.
In this context, the minister expressed his satisfaction to the University’s position in order to integrate with its industrial environment, which made it an important “partner” in the equation of local and even national economic development.
During this visit, the minister has visited some university residences, especially in the city of El Kseur, located 25 kilometers west of Bejaia, this city turned into a true university pole.
The city of El Kseur includes a new Faculty of Economic Sciences with a capacity of 6000 pedagogical seats, three student’s residences, noting that ongoing work to build a conference hall with a capacity of 500 pedagogical seats with an estimated investment of more than 4 billion DZD.

The minister stressed, on Monday, in Sidi Bel Abbes, on the importance of making university theatre “a tool to transform innovative ideas of students into marketable products.”
During a statement to the press on the sidelines of his working visit to the province in order to oversee the closing of the 14th edition of University Theatre Festival “Mahieddine Bouzid”, the minister indicated that “there are indications that university theatre will become a tool at the service of culture and will transform the innovative ideas of students to marketable products where the market meets art and culture, through university theatre.”
He added that “what we have seen today in university theatre of Sidi Bel Abbes represents a fertile ground for national solidarity and tolerance, for the transmission of Algerian society cultures from one generation to the next, to build a new Algeria and to open up to social and economic environment, through multiple activities, whether they are scientific or artistic.”
He added “the theatre has become a reality in the Algerian University environment and the theatre capacity we witness today, are the best proof of the great progress made in the artistic, creative and cultural fields at the university.”
The minister stressed that within the framework of the agreement signed with the Ministry of Culture and Arts, 115 workshops on teaching and practice in theatre will open at all the universities of the country, to support young energies and students the chance to exhibit their talents, energies and innovations on the cultural scene.
The minister stressed that “according to the 41st of the engagements of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Algerian University is the locomotive of innovation, creativity, scientific, technological, human and artistic fields, which grants it the right of knowledge and creativity.”
He initiated his visit at the university campus of “Djillali Liabes” University of Sidi Bel Abbes, where he visited representation tents of university institutions, an exhibition organized at the library hall, including stands of universities, such as doctoral theses, academic works on theatre and art paintings and sculptures made by students of the university departments and their contributions to the artistic and cultural animation. He also inspected University Theatre Clubs and attended drama interpretation and writing workshops at the library.
On Monday evening, the minister chaired the closing ceremony of the 14th edition of the National University Theatre Festival “Mahieddine Bouzid” where he honoured the ten participating troupes, watched the full theatrical performance of the one awarded the best prize and honoured the family of the late artist “Mahieddine Bouzid”, the jury and the supervisors of the workshops.

The minister affirmed, Thursday, in Algiers, the endeavour of his sector to bring scientific research closer to the market by valuing its results.
During his supervision of an information day on “saffron cultivation” at the Higher National Agronomic School in El Harrach, the minister explained that “the linking between science and the market through valuing the results of scientific research permits the improvement of productivity,” highlighting that the adoption of this interdependence in the agricultural sector enables the raising of national stakes in the field.”
“This kind of effort would support national agriculture and strengthen some products that our country can specialise in producing,” he added.
The minister referenced the Scientific and Technical Research Centre for Arid Regions results on saffron cultivation to confirm that “this globally important product could become one of the sources of national income for hard currency by unifying the efforts of researchers and producers.”
The minister praised the efforts of scientific and technological research exploitation to promote saffron production, stating that “the expansion of the digitalization of scientific research and the rational valorization of its results in agricultural production, would achieve a significant improvement in wealth creation.”
For their part, the researchers emphasized on the need to value this type of spice and its products as one of the sustainable innovative sources for the development of high-value food products and introduced Algerian saffron in various forums.
The study of the Scientific and Technological Research Centre for Arid Regions showed «very satisfactory» results for the quality of Algerian saffron. The study identified 11 provinces with high production quality of this material with: Tlemcen, Batna, Djelfa, Béjaïa and Ghardaïa leading the way.

The minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research is the guest of the second issue of the virtual seminar “Hour of Dialogue”

The second issue of the virtual seminar “Hour of Dialogue” of the High Council of Youth hosted the minister on the occasion of the celebration of Knowledge Day, which falls on April 16 of each year, where the reform efforts initiated by the sector of higher education and scientific research and its future projects were addressed.
During this seminar, which was organised on Monday, the minister answered, in an atmosphere of transparency and democracy, the questions of the youth of Algeria from the inside and abroad about a number of axes directly related to the reform efforts initiated by the sector of higher education and scientific research, which allowed them to discuss the current issues of the sector and view the content of the future projects that he supervises the planning and implementation.
On this occasion, the minister insisted on “the need for the student to exhibit his innovative idea by creating a micro-enterprise and seriously contributing to the development of the national economy by creating jobs in various fields, such as industry, energy, and agriculture,” recalling the existence of “draft legal texts that will soon be embodied to support the employment of postdoctoral students”.
In the same context, he stressed “the importance of strengthening the partnership between the university and economic institutions to enhance training and give opportunities to students to interact with the professional world and learn about the procedures of creating their own micro-enterprises.” He also highlighted “the importance of promoting the teaching of artificial intelligence and improving university services, especially university transportation, by digitalizing it.”
For his part, the president of the High Council of Youth, Mustapha Hidaoui, stressed that “the Algerian youth have today charted, through such initiatives, a new path of dialogue and participatory democracy, communication, and exchange of ideas.”
Along the same lines, he pointed out that the Council “will later organise other meetings with different sectors related to the youth category to preserve this upscale tradition,” highlighting “the importance of the optimal use of modern technology in communication and transactions and promoting the values of digital citizenship among the Algerian youth. As he said, is an embodiment of the aspirations of the political will aiming to achieve the best interest of youth through strengthening their position in the management and evaluation of public affairs and including them in the decision-making process.”

The minister of Higher Education and Scientific research, Mr. Kamel Baddari, carried out today, April 1st, 2024, a working and inspection visit to the Solar Equipment Development Unit in Bou Ismail.

 
During this visit, the most important results of the National Research Projects NRP were presented, including the following:
– Solar and photovoltaic plants cleaning system,
– Solar powered treated water purification system,
– Solar cooling for solar poultry farming barn,
– Solar energy barley cultivating room,
– Smart model farm,

 
In addition, subsidiary institutions and technological platforms of the Centre were introduced.
