Global Conference for the Governance of Artificial Intelligence for Good and for All

On Thursday, July 4th, 2024, the minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Kamel Baddari, asserted, in Shanghai, Chine, the commitment of Algeria, led by the president of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to contribute to the integration of Artificial Intelligence in various sectors.
During his participation in the high level Global Conference of Artificial Intelligence for Good and for All in Shanghai, China, the minister recalled Algeria’s commitment, led by the president of the Republic, to contribute to the development and integration of AI governance in various scientific, educational and economic sectors, and establish infrastructures in university institutions, research centres and units, and the development of human capacities in recognition of this modern technological strategy that promotes competitiveness and innovation.
The minister also mentioned the creation of a National Scientific Council of artificial intelligence, which serves as a scientific advisory body that aims to propose strategic elements for developing AI, together with the creation of university institutions specialized in this field such as the National School of Artificial Intelligence.

On this occasion, the minister suggested a set of principles for the governance of artificial intelligence, starting the equitable access to artificial intelligence techniques and their advantages to all countries, the reduction of the digital divide so that emerging countries can use and develop artificial intelligence technologies as well as ensuring the moral application of this technology.

The minister also stressed the necessity to include contextual adaptability with the cultural, economic and social doctrines of different countries, the possibility of inclusive decision-making that allows emerging countries to participate in international governance decision-making, the training of a workforce to establish an artificial intelligence world market, as well as respect of intellectual property of countries’ and peoples’ data.
