The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research inaugurates the first Research Centre for Applied Mathematics

On 24 December 2025, Mr. Kamel Baddari, the minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, presided over the opening ceremony of the Research Centre for Applied Mathematics at the Scientific and Technological Hub “Martyr Abdelhafid Ihaddaden” in Sidi Abdellah.

In attendance were Mr. Kamel Sanhadji, the Director General of the National Health Security Agency (ANSS), and several researchers specialising in applied mathematics.

In this context, Mr. Kamel Baddari clarified that the Research Centre for Applied Mathematics is the first of its kind in the country. It falls under the strategic development vision of the victorious Algeria, which is based on utilising applied mathematics and artificial intelligence as fundamental pillars for sustainable national development.

This centre will provide the government with data and statistics to support decision-making processes in various sectors, particularly in economic, social, health-related ones. It will also ensure precise scientific guidance to help achieve the scientific objectives of Algeria’s developmental vision for the period 2024-2029.

This scientific edifice embodies a national vision according in which scientific research, particularly in the field of applied mathematics, is considered a fundamental pillar of sustainable development. It is also seen as a strategic means of fostering innovation, guiding decision-making, and keeping pace with rapid scientific and technological transformations. furthermore, it serves as a space for advanced research, and a bridge connecting theory with practice, and the university with its economic and social environment. this establishes mathematics as a reference tool for enhancing the industrial, economic and social sectors, improving decision-making mechanisms, and boosting profitability. 

On this occasion, a study day was organised with the theme of “From Data to Decision-Making: Applied Mathematics, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence for Tomorrow’s Infrastructure”.

In the same context, the National Research Centre for Applied Mathematics signed several bilateral cooperation agreements with the National Higher School of Artificial Intelligence, the National Higher School of Mathematics, the National Polytechnic School of Oran, and the Algerian Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies.
