On 9 October 2025, Mr. Kamel Baddari, the minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, oversaw this afternoon, the ceremony at the National Higher School of Mathematics of the Scientific and Technological Hub “Martyr Abdelhafid Ihaddadene” in Sidi Abdellah, where National School of Mathematics was awarded the designation of a centre of excellence in mathematics by the European Mathematical Society. The event was attended by His Excellency the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to Algeria, Mr. Alberto Cutillo, and a representative from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Algeria.
In a speech delivered on the occasion, Mr. Baddari affirmed that the launch of the second class of this programme, which includes students from ten countries and supervised by twenty-four Algerian and international professors, demonstrates the “Scientific and Technological Hub schools’ openness to the world”. He further emphasised that “investing in mathematics is investing in the economy and national sovereignty.”
The minister praised these schools’ consistent achievements, highlighting the “scientific excellence” of the National Higher School of Mathematics. This excellence is evident, he stated, through the school’s “Excellence Label” as a centre of excellence in mathematics, awarded by the European Mathematical Society.
Mr. Baddari adds that the success and the achievements attained in the field of scientific research, have enabled “the Algerian University to gain an international visibility”, recalling the recent results of the international ranking (T.H.E), one of the most prominent in the world, in which Algerian secured the first position in the Maghreb region and the second in Africa, thanks to twenty-eight university institutions.
For his part, the school director, Mr. Ahmed Medeghri, explained that the international master’s programme in mathematics was introduced following the school’s integration into the international mathematics network. On the occasion, an explanatory presentation was given on this training course, which involves several supporting organisations, including the International Mathematical Union, the International Centre for Theoretical Physics, and the European Mathematical Society. The students from the school who excelled in the International Mathematics Competition held in Bulgaria were then honoured.
