Mr. Kamel Baddari oversees the official launch of the exceptional doctoral programme in animal production

On 29 May 2025, Mr. Kamel Baddari, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, inaugurated the exceptional doctoral programme in animal production and nutrition for productive animal at the Higher National Veterinary School in Oued Semar.
In a statement released on the occasion, the minister explained that « this initiative marks the beginning of a shift in strategic scientific research towards achieving the goals of local development, primarily focusing on food security through valorising scientific results and investing them in production.” He further added that “this initiative is intended to answer to the needs of Algeria’s livestock sector as part of national efforts to achieve self-sufficiency.” furthermore, “this research will enable the preparation of a strategic plan for the agricultural services, enabling the university to play an active role and ensuring its outcomes benefit society.”
It is noteworthy that this doctoral programme is the product of the partnership between the Higher National Veterinary School, the National Higher School of Agronomy, and a number of research centres.
A scientific forum was organised during the event under the tittle “ Sustainable Development, Modernisation of Livestock and Animal Production: The Strategic Contribution of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research”, which addressed the current situation of livestock in Algeria and the challenges to overcome, while focusing on animal health and the use of veterinary medicines, as well as a review of the main livestock breeds and the genetic diversity of animals, along with the potential for its improvement.
