This evening, on 16 July 2025, Mr. Kamel Baddari, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, welcomed his South African counterpart, the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Mr. Blade Zimande. Mr. Zimande is conducting a formal visit to Algeria for three days to discuss matters of mutual interest in science and research.
On 17 July 2025, the two ministers oversaw the signing of the meeting minutes between the two parties and announced the action plan for the period 2026-2028. This plan focuses on cooperation, partnership and integration between the two countries in several fields, including microtechnology, artificial intelligence, energy sovereignty, food security and digital transformation.
In his speech, the minister emphasised the importance of establishing a knowledge bridge of research and innovation between the two countries. This bridge would be based on scientific cooperation, the exchange of experiences, and the integration of resources through collaboration. The minister also set out the priorities for scientific research and technological development in order to meet the vision of both countries. This will serve knowledge diplomacy and promote international competitiveness.
For his part, the South African Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation praised the shared memory of the liberation of our countries. He also applauded the achievements of the Algerian universities and research centres, and called for enhanced intellectual solidarity to promote sustainable development and intellectual sovereignty for both nations.
